> content.
>
> As for the eqnarray* grids - indeed that look takes some getting used
> to. After using it for some time, I actually began to like it. I am not
> quite sure how to change this cleanly. Currently, the whole code is
> really simple, drawing a rectangle around each cell individually. Trying
> to find adjacent cells and then determining the line between is
> certainly much more messy and may be quite tricky to get correct for
> cell spans etc.

I think that one ultimately gets used to about any convention.
Nevertheless, the first impression is important, and it still seems
a bit messy to me. But I think that it should be possible to do
something about it. Also true that the implementation will be non trivial;
the current solution is definitely the easiest one.

> Actually, do you have an idea what the mechanism is that causes the
> space between the lines in eqnarray* ? I never managed to cause the same
> effect in a table.

This is just the interparagraph space.

> Currently, my own major grievance with the table grid code is that cell
> borders are hidden *behind* the grid. I tried to put the visual hints
> behind the text, but this did not work nicely with overlays (which I use
> heavily in one special layout). As I said, alpha-channel rastering would
> be the perfect solution for this...

Yes, we should try to implement alpha rendering sometime soon;
this should be possible with the Qt port.

Best wishes, --Joris
> Thanks for your patch. I support the idea of it, but still find
> the rendering suboptimal: I think that the width of the table hints
> should always be 1ln, whereas the width is currently 2ln for interior cells.
> Also, the rendering of eqnarray* environments is ugly; one should try to
> use the mean y-values of successive rows.
>
> I agree that this will be some more work, but do you think that you
> can fix these issues? Don't forget that some cells may have
> non trivial spans...
>> Hi there,
>>
>> attached is a patch implementing an idea that I had for a long time:
>>
>> Currently, when the cursor is inside a table, only the outer border of
>> the whole table is displayed as a cyan rectangle. This patch displays
>> the whole grid of a table as very faint gray lines.
>>
>> I hope that this feature will help greatly if you do intense layout with
>> complex tables and especially nested tables.
>>
>> The patch also slightly changes the color of outline rectangles from
>> intense cyan to fainter gray-cyan. This is mostly a matter of taste. I
>> always found the intense color a bit "loud" on the eye. The intense red
>> for selections is fine, but the outline should be a mere hint to guide
>> the eye and seems a bit more elegant in a fainter tone.
>>
>> This whole patch is probably not the final form of this feature, but
>> more a basis of discussion.
>>

Dear Norbert,

Thanks for your patch. I support the idea of it, but still find
the rendering suboptimal: I think that the width of the table hints
should always be 1ln, whereas the width is currently 2ln for interior cells.
Also, the rendering of eqnarray* environments is ugly; one should try to
use the mean y-values of successive rows.

I agree that this will be some more work, but do you think that you
can fix these issues? Don't forget that some cells may have
non trivial spans...

Best wishes, --Joris

> Hi there,
>
> attached is a patch implementing an idea that I had for a long time:
>
>
>
>
>
> Greetings,
> Norbert
>> Most of the information recorded on the quipus consists of numbers in a
>> decimal system;[1] see The encoding system below.
>> Some of the knots, as well as other features such as color, are thought
>> to represent non-numeric information, which has not been deciphered. It is
>> generally thought that the system did not include phonetic symbols
>> the quipus used a binary system which could record phonological or
> 1.0.7.2. The one I downloaded today appears as 1.0.7.3 and is really
> sluggish compared to the previous one (both qt builds)... About
> 1/2 to 1
> second second lag when I press a key before the character is on the
> screen!
> Has anyone noticed it?
>

there have been a lot of changes lately to TeXmacsQt in order to
correcly support the graphics mode and event interruptions during
repainting.
This afternoon (gmt) I've commited some more changes which should help
in perceived performace (current svn revision is 2863). Please check
if it is the case for you.

Thanks

Displaying table grids

Hi there,

attached is a patch implementing an idea that I had for a long time:

Greetings,
Norbert

Dear Siva

I was very recently trying to do the same thing. It took me a lot of
browsing through the (undocumented) code and some trial-and-error to finally
succeed. Via the Tools menu, you can enter a scheme command:

(print-snippet (url "$HOME" "filename.pdf") (selection-tree))

Of course you need to adjust the path to your needs. It works for most
formats (ps, eps, png...), following the extension you give.

You can look in the "glue" files to find out what c code is called.

best,
Philippe
I all!

It works now. I decided to give it another try recently, and Qt-Texmacs now
behaves normally, without doing anything special. I don't know weather it's
due to a source code change or to an updated Ubuntu package, though.
Hello,
I was just wondering if the TeXmacs project currently has a maintainer
for the Octave plugin. If not, I wouldn't mind volunteering as such.

> Qt-texmacs I compiled a few days ago is still not completely conforming to
> standards. For instance, when I have an active selection, if I start typing
> text or if I paste something, the selection is not replaced by the new text.
> Instead, the selection is merely canceled and the text entered next to it.
>
Indeed, this is one detail that is still left to do in the selection
mechanism of TeXmacs. It should not be too hard to implement - I don't
know when I might get to it. It is not high priority for me, but I agree
that it would be nice to have.

> Also the "insert" key does not seem to toggle the usual insert/overwrite
> mode, at least in my configuration.
>
I don't think TeXmacs has an "overwrite" mode at all. The problem may be
already finding a proper definition for the behavior. All is easy while
editing plain text, but what should happen to formatting information or
any non-text elements when you "overwrite" them?

Personally, I find overwrite mode quite handy in text editors in plain
ASCII, fixed-character width setting. I don't think I have ever used it
in a variable-width font. It might be nice to have in preformatted
environments within TeXmacs. Otherwise, I think it is not really worth
the trouble.

> Is this the intended behavior, or is there a configuration switch I missed
> somewhere? If it is normal, would it be hard to change the code in order to
> (at least as an option) delete any existing selection when something is
> inserted from the keyboard or the clipboard?
>
I am not sure. Should be straighforward but it might be non-trivial to
get the behavior "quite right". In my experience it takes a lot of
tweaking until such a change has exactly the effect that you intend in
all the possible different cases.

It works now. I decided to give it another try recently, and Qt-Texmacs now behaves normally, without doing anything special. I don't know weather it's due to a source code change or to an updated Ubuntu package, though.

I was very recently trying to do the same thing. It took me a lot of browsing through the (undocumented) code and some trial-and-error to finally succeed. Via the Tools menu, you can enter a scheme command:

(print-snippet (url "$HOME" "filename.pdf") (selection-tree))

Of course you need to adjust the path to your needs. It works for most formats (ps, eps, png...), following the extension you give.

You can look in the "glue" files to find out what c code is called.
QMenu *menu = action -> menu();
QList<QAction *> list = menu -> actions();

But " list.count() " is always returning ZERO ( 0 ) for all actions (those have popup menu also).
I want list of actions present in that popup menu.
Hello,

I've just been trying to follow the instructions on the "Texmacs-QT for
Windows" page,
http://www.texmacs.org/tmweb/download/winqt.en.html.

I've run into several problems:

- There is a typo in the instructions at
...CPPFLAGS="-L/usr/local/include... where it should read
"-I/usr/local/include". I didn't spot this as I copy & pasted it, which took
me an hour to find...

- In the version I checked out from SVN, the line
"(debug-set! stack 1000000)" is not commented out in the current SVN, or did
I miss something?

- Compiling guile produces a warning on my system, which terminates the
build process since -Werror is enabled. I had to do

"./configure --enable-error-on-warning=no\
 --prefix=/usr/local \
 CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/include" \
 LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib"

- When finally compiling Texmacs itself, Qt must be in the path, so I needed
to do an extra "export PATH=/c/Qt/4.4.3/bin:$PATH" before the configure. I
also added "--enable-error-on-warning=no" for Texmacs configure since I
wasn't certain what the default was.

- The line
"$(LN) -s ../plugins $(tmdir)/plugins"
does not work on my system ("File not found") and should read
"$(LN) -s ./plugins $(tmdir)/plugins"

Unfortunately, when I start TeXmacs, I get

$ texmacs
C:\msys\1.0\home\XPMUser\texmacs\src\TeXmacs\progs/kernel/boot/compat.scm:33:1:
Stack overflow
ERROR: Stack overflow

Is this a known problem?

Best regards,
