[zebra 23204] zebra and ifconfig bge0 -alias

Hello fellows.

I have a FreeBSD 5.1 ( it's old, I know and soon it'll be updated ) and
a Zebra 0.95a version providing ospf dynamic routing. Recently I added
an IP alias to the interface where the ospf is acting and everything
went OK. When I removed the IP alias - ifconfig bge0 -alias .... - the
server lost all the routes learned on that interface, despite the
interface did not went down. I goggled a lot and did not find an
explanation to that behavior. I restarted the zebra using zebractl and
the routes went to the route table OK.

Is it possible the 'ifconfig alias' had interfered with the zebra ?

Sorry if it's a dumb question and thanks in advance for any help. Excuse
me if this isn't the most appropriated list to post my question.

Use quagga. Zebra has not been updated in ages. Quagga is zeroing in
on a 1.0 release Zebra stopped even looking toward ages ago. Lots of
changes in BGPd in Quagga (like MD5 signatures) you just won't find in
Zebra.

with these. You're asking how to configure ripd, ripngd, ospfd, and
ospf6d in one question? Do you even know which you want to use or what

Hi ,

Please find some of the steps :

Get the Zebra tar file

Grep for any previous ZEBRA installed

rpm -qa | grep zebra

If yes then

Uninstall it by using rpm -e <zebra> --nodeps ( to keep the libraries )

Then UNTAR it in ur linux PC.

tar xvzf <zebra>

./configure --enable-vtysh ( to get the vtysh )

make ; make install ;

then /usr/local/sbin/

will have the deamons installed

zebra , ospfd , bgp , pimd etc

cd /usr/local/etc/

then cp vtysh.conf.sample vtysh.conf

like this do for ospfd and zebra

and start the deamon as /usr/local/sbin/zebra -d

/usr/local/sbin/ospfd -d

then zebra and ospfd are configured and running in ur linux.

Chk by ps -A | grep zebra as well as for ospfd

then telnet localhost zebra

config term

interface eth0

ip address 11.11.11.11/24

write memory

sh run

telnet localhost ospfd

config term

router ospf

network 11.11.11.0/24 area 1

redistr or

redist kernel

ser z restart

ser o restart

UR box is a router now ENJOY ,

and root > VTYSH

show ip ospf databas

1) You don't say what platform or distribution you are running.

2) That version of Zebra (which is the latest) is almost 4 years old
and nothings been released since.

3) Zebra itself has been pretty much replaced by Quagga, a branch years
ago, which is now approaching a release candidate for 1.0 before too
long.

4) Current version for Quagga is 0.99.14, released not too long ago.

5) What happens when you try with Quagga instead.

[zebra 23193] netlink and zebra

Hi, I'm developing a provider for sblim (http://sblim.wiki.sourceforge.net/) using netlink sockets, this provider must give a routes list based on user specified parameters. My question is, I can see that routes created by zebra uses the rtm_protocol flag equals to RTPROT_ZEBRA, but how can I identify what protocol had created that route.
What's the way that zebra manage routes? It creates all routes on kernel route table? if this is correct, how can I differenciate between a static route and a dynamic route (created by ospf as example)...

Other question is: Where is stored the administrative distance configuration used by ospf, bgp, etc...?

Id suggest you check the ownership of the path /var/run/quagga/

Make sure you have read/write permissions all the way through the path down
to the config file.

If you dont have the correct permissions, check the zebra.conf file, and
set the PID file to be stored elsewhere.

Dear All,

I am not sure whether its a right platform to post my issues.

Kindly apologize me in case of any discrepancy.

Below mentioned are some of the issues in which i need your assistance:

I need to configure OSPF with following settings:

1. Maximum no. of areas can be 9.

2. Maximum no. of route entries can be 2048.

3. Maximum no. of neighbors can be 80.

4. Maximum no. of summarizing entries can be 256.

I have looked into available OSPF commands but i dont get any commands that would fullfill these requirements.

Kindly help me out, i will be thankful to you.

[zebra 23187] Processing of bgp add/updates

Processing of bgp add/updates Hello, I have a company that wants to send me information (specifically botnet c&c channels) but will only send it via BGP. I am tring to find a way to process this information before applying it to my network. I am looking for a way to insert bgp add/update information into a database, or to a file and have a separate process manage that file.

Where would the best place to do this (sorry, havent done any c/c++ in the recent future)? I was looking at zclient->ipv4_route_add... Any other suggestions?

Can someone tell me how to enable the MBGP attributes in Zebra.
I have tried
neighbor peer version version
to enable MBGP in Zebra but the command does not work.

I have tried Quagga too. But that also does not allow setting the value as 4+, though it sets as 4 and 4-.
