GnuCash always crashes on start upHello,
I installed gnucash 2.0.2 rpm with Yast on OpenSuse 10.2. The application GnuCash always crashes on start up! # gnucash gnucash: [D] "starting up (1)." gnucash: [D] "handling command line arguments"("gnucash") gnucash: [D] "files to open: "() gnucash: [D] (results #<eof>) The Gnucash start window appears, next the Gnucash window appears. then another window with the following message appears: "GnuCash could not obtain the lock for /home/oliver/Windfinder/Fibu/gnucash/gnucash_ok. That database may be in use by another user, in which case you should not open the database. What would you like to do? | Open anyway | create new file | Quit |" I select "open anyway" The application crashes, a bug buddy window appears and the shell outputs the following: ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Accessibility ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Apply theme ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Assistive Technology Preferences ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Bonobo Component Browser ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Desktop Background ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for File Management ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Fonts ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for GNOME Font Viewer ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for GNOME System Monitor ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Keyboard ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Menu Editor ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Menus & Toolbars ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Mouse ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Nautilus ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Open Folder ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Preferred Applications ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Screensaver ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Search for Files... ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Shortcuts ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Sound ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Theme ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Windows ** (bug-buddy:19120): WARNING **: Couldn't load icon for Show Desktop "/opt/gnome/bin/gnucash": not in executable format: File format not recognized Failed to read a valid object file image from memory. Re: GnuCash always crashes on start upHi,
Try starting gnucash with the command guncash --nofile in a terminal window. See if that helps. You may have some problem with the data file you have tried to open. If anything is printed on the terminal before bug-buddy, please post it here, to maybe show what is causing your problem (I don't think that the bug-buddy stuff you have posted will help, but others may know better!) 2.0.2 is way old, and has loads of bugs fixed by more recent versions. there is a newer version (2.2.0, afaik) available from ftp://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-crauch/10.2/ which you add as an "installation source" in YaST. That works. So what should I do? > > 2.0.2 is way old, and has loads of bugs fixed by more recent versions. > > there is a newer version (2.2.0, afaik) available from > ftp://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-crauch/10.2/ > > which you add as an "installation source" in YaST. Gnucash 2.0.2 used to work. I have 2 data files and the online banking only worked with one data file so I decided to install GnuCash 2.2.0 from ftp://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-crauch/10.2/ But that version has no online banking at all. So I re-installed 2.0.2 and since then the application crashes all the time! This looks like Murphy's Law. I should have never uninstalled 2.0.2 at all! Well anyway, I installed 2.2.0 again and it starts up fine and it opens the data file. The only problem: It does not have online banking so it's useless for me. If I go back to 2.0.2 the whole thing will crash again! So I am trapped! > > HTH, > Maf. > > oliver@... > > On Thursday 30 Aug 2007, Oliver König wrote: > > Hello, > > I installed gnucash 2.0.2 rpm with Yast on OpenSuse 10.2. You will need at least aqbanking and aqbanking-qt3 2.3.2 from packman.
