Hello everyone,
I'm writing because I'm a PhD student on a pretty tight budget living in the United States. I have read this list for over a year now, seeing many intriguing conferences I would love to participate in. However, the vast majority of conferences I've seen about participatory design, design thinking, and designing for social change seem to be in Europe or Australia. My work focuses on international development and engineering education.
How would you advise a self-funded student towards design conferences? Are there some conferences I really need to prioritize without much regard for the price tag? Are there more affordable conferences near me?
