</div><br>Yes, Tom said that he's fine with setting up a repository (or two). I
<br>wasn't aware of the existing launchpad account, but it shouldn't be too
<br>hard to get grecipe and grecipe-dev groups set up. I can't get to
<br>Launchpad right now, but hopefully I can get to this in the next 2-3
<br>days. My dog had a stroke yesterday and can't move her hind legs, so
<br>we're pretty wrapped up with that for at least the next day or so.

<br>That documentation is a bit dated (some of it still makes it sound like the plugin system is in the midst of being implemented -- in fact, it is now completely in place). However, the basics are right and it will give you a good place to start.<br>
<br>A menu planner shouldn't require any changes to the core code -- just writing the plugin (though of course you may find and fix some bugs in the main code as you build the plugin, which is always a boon). <br><br>
I would think that stage 1 would be to write the basic interface, either as a separate window that comes up through the "tools" menu or as a tab in the main interface (the same way the "browser" is a tab there). Stage 2 would be to write a database plugin to add necessary tables to the database for storing menu planning data (if that seems too complicated, you could start by just writing data to a text file or something and then write the DB plugin later).<br>
<br>One thing you might want to use as you get to know the code is the "python console" -- this gives you a live python shell inside a running Gourmet. If you're someone who likes to learn by fiddling, it's definitely a handy tool to have.<br>

I always thought the recipe box metaphor was
straightforward, but it's not particularly fun -- the cookie is much
more whimsical, and pleasurable... and it does a better job getting at
the whole fun of collecting recipes and cooking.<br>
<br>In some sense cookies aren't a great match for the "gourmet" name,
but I can't think of a "Gourmet" food that would read as easily (and
besides, people like cookies... and cookies are something you almost
always consult a recipe for, which make them a better fit than e.g.
wine and cheese or a cut of meat or something)<br>

playing around with the main program icon, and I'd like some feedback<br>
before going further! I thought a specific food-icon would work better<br>
than the current one (which is hard to distinguish from any generic<br>
database-type app), so here's a quick mockup of a cookie icon. What do<br>
you think? Is there a different food/concept icon you'd prefer? Would<br>
you be interested in some new icons for the program?<br>

For the source you'll need GIT not SVN (they moved the repository to

There are various Windows packages of git floating around you can try.

I got swamped with other projects and haven't had time to work on this
more, but I did get this far. The problem is PROBABLY with gtk.glade,
though it doesn't look like my patch is there so it could just be all
of gtk.<br>

I have a couple of patches which I'm attaching to this email. The
gglobals patch will help it find your GTK install. You might need to
fiddle with the registry key path depending on the version of GTK you
grabbed. The winprinter patch simply disables Windows printing.<br>

I was able to get past this error by stubbing out the winprinter. Not a solution, but it's a start.<br>

I have a new crash when I select File->New. I've tried running against two different installations of Glade for Win32:<br>

<br><br>On this (debian) box at least, intltool-merge is more than a little
<br>slow. And it's called once per plugin on each update. So I've put
<br>together a little patch that avoids re-merging stuff we've done
<br>already. I realise that it doesn't check for whether the locale has
<br>changed from last time we ran. If that matters, we could cache that
<br>info, I suppose?

<br>For my purposes, the main advantage of git is speed -- it is now *much* faster to look at my devel tree, see what's changed, update my changelog appropriately, and commit my changes. The reason for this, as I understand it, is that the whole history is now stored locally for each user, so we depend less on the SF server for our speed ,etc.<br>
<br>Git is also known for "distributed development" -- it should make things like branching and merging easier to do for interested parties.<br><br>This e-mail is both a heads up and a call for any objections. My plan is to go ahead and deactivate our CVS service on SF now in favor of git for the future. Though it's possible to keep both running on SF, it will only lead to confusion in the long term to have more than one version control system.<br>
<br>Please let me know if you have any objections to my closing down Gourmet CVS.<br><br>Note that there are many easy-to-use tools for git, just as there are for SF. For any other emacs users out there, the key for me was finding git.el (<a href="http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/Git#toc4" target="_top" rel="nofollow">http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/Git#toc4</a>). With this installed, I can call M-x git-status, which is the equivalent of the old M-x cvs-examine. Otherwise, all my key-commands are the same for doing diffs, commits, etc.<br>

The issue was with "X"ing the window out -- closing using "Control-W" or File->Close was working.
