Hello Hikers,
I am an avid hiker and have hiked many miles in the San Gabriel Mountains and the Grand Canyon (from the river), but I'm having to curtail my activities due to typical age-related problems in my hip (arthritis). My orthopedist is recommending that I have the Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure rather than a total hip replacement. I've done a lot of Internet research on the procedure and have a highly recommended surgeon (L.A. area), but would like to hear from any of you who have gone through the procedure: whether you've been able to get back full function, how long it took to get back to normal, if you are able to do the same type of hiking you were able to do, and anything else that might be helpful. I'll probably have the surgery some time next summer when my work schedule slows down a little.
I'm looking forward to hearing any words of wisdom.
