HP 9000 K200 (819) ...Is there anyone here? I'm attempting an openbsd 4.2 install on a
Kittyhawk, HP9K K200, and I get as far as the time check on the boot CD, when the kernel just hangs ... WARNING: Clock gained 18 days -- CHECK AND RESET THE DATE! <the rest is silence> Any ideas?? Cheers, Rob Sciuk |

If you want to help, please send us a complete dmesg. It shouldn't be too difficult to capture when if you're using a serial console. Cheers, Mark |

Sorry for the delay, the DMESG does not get too far along, and although I've got dhcpd/bootp set up with the Dec 6th snapshot .lif image, I cannot seem to get either the 10BT or the AUI with 10B2 to bootp (yes, I still have a 10Base2 network) working, although the hpux seems to recognize the network ok ... at least the 10B2 aui). So, I'm using the install.iso on a freshly burned cdr. I've reset the clock (intially out by 1700+ days), and now it appears to only be "out" by 21 days, but that's as far as I seem to get with openbsd. I used to have an earlier OpenBSD running on a 712, but I've been playing with Debian recently, so that machine has been overwritten ... I'll go ahead and put OpenBSD back on it though, perhaps it will help, or at least give me a system where I can compile kernels for the Kittyhawk ... Any ideas? [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type APPLICATION/octet-stream which had a name of session_log] |

Hmm, I'm sure that machine has more hardware devices than this dmesg shows ;) Looks like device enumeration simply fails on your machine. I vaguely remember seeing some Linux code that had some workarounds for firmware calls for the KittyHawk. I'll see if I can come up with a diff. Meanwhile, could you try a verbose boot? Say Y to the "Interact with IPL?" question, then at the OpenBSD bootloader prompt type "boot -c bsd.rd", and at the UKC> prompt say "verbose" and "quit". Thanks, Mark |

Oh, I guess my instructions were a bit incomplete. When you reboot the machine, interrupt the boot when it says: To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds. Then at the Main Menu prompt, type "boot" and answer the: Interact with IPL (Y, N, Q)?> question with "Y". That will load the OpenBSD bootloader and pause for a few seconds at the boot> prompt. There you can type "boot bsd.rd -c", which will give you the UKC> prompt. Cheers, Mark |

Boot IO dependant code (IODC) revision 0 and when the OpenBSD header appears, it does not give me a chance to enter anything, but rather just boots bsd.rd in the normal way ... Perhaps there is a firmware setting which is preventing the IPL interaction from actually occurring?? Re: HP 9000 K200 (819) ... Possible hw donation ...Gentlemen,
I'm hoping to attend the BSDCan conference this year in Ottawa, and I'm wondering if anyone from the OpenBSD/HPPA community will be there? Further, if there is interest, I would donate the K200 I've been using to the cause, if there is anyone who would like it, and be able to pack it away with them at the conference, I'd happily drag it up to Ottawa for someone to work with 'BSD with ... I've got OpenBSD running on it, and there are 2 9gb hard drives still working on it ... (It is the size of a dishwasher, and weighs about 200 lbs, comes with terminal and a bunch of muxes). I need the room back ... Any takers?? Cheers, Rob.
