Hello,

since we need a new server and had good experiences with HP DL360 G5
machines and because the HP DL360 G6 seems to be cheaper (and 'newer'),
does anyone here use such beast successfully with OpenBSD?

Alf

Think someone asked a few weeks ago. Search the archives. If I remember
correctly, yes but search as I might be wrong

Last week, I got one as a surpise and I was told that the G5 can
apparently not be ordered anymore. I was in a hurry to bring up a Web
server. So I quickly inserted two new harddisks, configured the RAID
controller through the BIOS not to use them as a RAID array but two
separate logical volumes, and let OpenBSD i386 4.6-stable let
auto-partition (very nice!) the first drive. The test Web server was
online about half an hour later (mounting the rails and doing cable in
the rack while partitions got formatted and the system installed)...

So far, I have not had time to take a closer look at the machine. But
the basic stuff seems to work (did not try X or stuff like sound,
etc). The fans did not scream at all like a jet on takeoff, unlike
with some of earlier DLs. I try to post the output of a dmesg and
'sysctl hw' sometime this weekend.

Rolf

As promised the output of dmesg and sysctl below.

with 4 GB on board apparently by default.
