BP 29.88 inHg, holding but beginning to gradually drop by late morning. Light/Gentle W breezes, veering NW then WNW by late morning; returning W as precipitation arrived. Good overall visibility w/moderate to thick haze. Initially partial cloud cover w/a thin, light gray bank of clouds off to the W; encroaching overhead, becoming totally overcast by late morning and darkening considerably. A light rain began shortly before midday, becoming a steady downpour by ~12:30 w/a steady reduction in visibility. Approaching bank of heavy rain w/thunder made the decision to call the count early an easy one. Raptor Observations: A sparse, dispersed flight; suppressed (undoubtedly) by approaching storms. Broad-winged Hawk remained at very casual height, passing in several small groups of 3 or 4. No flight to speak of once the promised precipitation finally arrived late morning. Non-raptor Observations: 2 Cedar Waxwing, 1 Alder Flycatcher, 1 Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, 1 Scarlet Tanager, 1 Northern Waterthrush, 1 Northern Parula, 1 Mourning Warbler, 1 Barred Owl. Predictions: Another NW wind "grab bag" expected after stormier weather passes early/mid morning. It might not be half bad! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Arthur W.
