Weather: The first day of clearing after a long-lasting rain and wind event that moved up the east coast this past week - a combination of the remnants of Hurrican Ida and a powerful Nor'easter. Our area received 5 - 8 inches of rain the past few days. Cloud cover 100% most of the day. The atmosphere appeared to be still unsettled with unusual and spectacular cloud formations. Upper level winds were coming out of the north. Ridge level winds were coming from every direction, as if they were wrapping around the knob. The temp. hovered in the 50's during the count period. Visibility was excellent. Raptor Observations: Conditions for a decent flight were difficult to assess due to the variable winds. Only two migrating hawks were observed. Both Turkey and Black Vultures were up and about. Non-raptor Observations: Pileated Woodpeckers and Ravens were the most conspicious passerines. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Mike Purdy (MikeLPurdy@...)
