Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve information may be found at: http://www.hawkridge.org/ Site Description: Hawk Ridge is operated by the Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory in the Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve (a 50 ha reserve managed by the Duluth Audubon Society). Sporadic counts occurred between 1951-1971, and systematic monitoring started in 1972. Counts are made from the ridgetop Main Overlook on Skyline Parkway, 1.7 km from the lake, and from a research banding station 0.5 km down the ridge from Main Overlook. Main Overlook is accesible by car; the research station requires a short walk. Directions to site: From Downtown Duluth: Drive northeast on Superior Street to 45th Avenue East. Turn left from Superior Street onto 45th Avenue East and drive to the stop sign at Glenwood Street. Turn left onto Glenwood Street. Drive on Glenwood to the top of the first hill to Skyline Parkway. This is a sharp right turn and it is easy to miss! Turn right onto Skyline Parkway and drive about 1 mile to the Main Overlook. (Note: There is a lower overlook at 1/2 mile. Drive 1/2 mile past this first overlook to get to Hawk Ridge.) From I35 traveling north: Take the 26th Avenue East / London Road exit. Turn right onto London Road, which is also Highway 61. Turn left onto 45th Avenue East and drive to the stop sign at Glenwood Street. Turn left onto Glenwood Street. Drive on Glenwood to the top of the first hill to Skyline Parkway. This is a sharp right turn and it is easy to miss! Turn right onto Skyline Parkway and drive about 1 mile to the Main Overlook. (Note: There is a lower overlook at 1/2 mile. Drive 1/2 mile past this first overlook to get to Hawk Ridge.) From Hwy 61 traveling south: In Duluth Hwy 61 is also London Road. Turn right onto 45th Avenue East and drive to the stop sign at Glenwood Street. Turn left onto Glenwood Street. Drive on Glenwood to the top of the first hill to Skyline Parkway.
