I am trying to teach my son [age 11] to code and it occurs to me that
it is quite easy to get a working robot. I have also seen teachers
teach robotics with a LEGO Mindstorms robotic kit. Given the
attention span of 11 year olds, you would have to be able to
demonstrate a concept in distinct steps. I would even go so far as to
break down the generation of MyFirstRobot into 3 distinct steps.
There are several concepts [sequence, selection, iteration] that need
to be addressed before going into robot code generation [events and
conditions].
One thing I have noticed [while in the robotics course] that adults do
when teaching a concept, they forget the things that they already know
like sequence, selection, iteration, variables, etc. Even the simple
thing like importing packages [Color] for the compiler to use are
difficult concepts that trip up beginners.
If there is a course out there. I would love to try it out.
Griff.
