Having Issues with the speed of TroopMaster 2009

Hi guys...

I have had troopmaster for sometime now. I accidentally left the database locked for an extended amount of time (couple weeks) while updating some material. Ever since then, My Troop Master has been incredibly slow to the point where It freezes up. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but as soon as i start it up for the first time, It is soo slow I can't even set the accounts up. I'm not talking about an unbearable slow, its a slow that takes 25 minutes for the tip screen at start up to show up. A couple of work arounds for the time being i've noticed is definately starting windows vista in safe mode with networking. This makes the program run as normal.

No other computer using our FTP server has had this issue. Just Mine.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!!

Mike

Mike,

Click on Start -> Run ->

Then type:

chkdsk c: /f

Let is check your drive.  Troopmaster may be located in a bad spot on
your hard drive.

Matt,
Just tried that and I started up troopmaster but it still has issues. it seems to be jumping my cpu usuage up to 100% which is probably causing the problem of the hang. When I start troopmaster it says checking regsistration (on the dotnet download screen) and it stays there)

I've tried everything from spyware removal, virus scans, registry cleannups, etc....

Any ideas??

Mike,

Have you got your DotNet settings to automatially load or start as soon as you start up TM. If so, you may want to disable or change some settings to only be used when you're ready to do an upload or download.

I've never used it yet, but I was just looking at some of the feature settings in there as if I were, and noticed that some of those settings could be changed. Might make a difference in how TM responds when initially started.

Mike,

I am having EXACTLY the same problem!  The only workaround I have been able to find is to open the problem early and wait a half an hour for it to start working, all the while Task Manager indicating a lot of CPU usage. (Rebooting is no help)  I use TM from 3 computers and only 1 is exhibiting this problem, of course it has to be the one I use to record data at our meetings, arghhh!  It was working fine on the machine until like a month ago.. I don't know what the solution is but would sure like to, so if you find the solution, please post it..  I may give support a call to see if they are aware of this problem and, more importantly, have a solution.  FWIW I don't know if it's a factor, but it so happens that the machine with the problem is running Vista, the other two XP.  BTW in my case the problem MAY also have been triggered following an extended period of having left the database on the server locked up, but it doesn't appear corrupted or anything, it the data appears intact and shows up normally on the other machines.

This may not help, but I have an old PC that I'm using TM on and I have to turn off the moving water in the Preferences. Otherwise, the CPU is pegged.  You may want to try that just to get some CPU cycles back.

Check your anti-virus software.  Make sure it is not blocking access to
the files where TM keeps database.
Create file exceptions in AV tool to skip the TM folders.  Both for
database as well as for backup location.

Are you replying to my 'moving water' reply, or to the OP? If it's about my system running slow with the moving water, I'm running TM2009 on a Ubuntu machine under Wine. No virus checker running.

AMD Duron 1Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM.

With moving water, Troopmaster is using ~ 30% of the CPU just sitting there.
With still water, CPU usage drops to 1%.

I called TM about this.  Sometimes the program would lock up for half an hour when opening, sometimes lock up for half an hour using the program.  They said some machines have an issue with Java but the solution is as suggested, turn off the moving water, under File/preferences.

I'll post again if this solution doesn't work.
