Re: Help Wanted: Full Time 4D ProgrammerTo all those looking for work at the present time, I interviewed for
this position and would HIGHLY recommend both the organization, the area, and the people. I interviewed with the director and 3 others and the 'feel' wasn't stuffy in the least bit -- it was very relaxed and I felt like I was talking to people I'd known for a long time. I've already told them not to be surprised if they hear from me at some point either reapplying for a position or visiting on vacation. For anyone looking at the position and thinking the salary is low as posted, please take a look at the cost of living in the greater Des Moines area either using something like CNN money or just the housing listings on desmoines.craigslist.org -- it's a very nice area with low traffic, a highly rated primary school system AND IT'S CHEAP. What exactly do I mean? Decent 3BR homes for $800. The most expensive property I could find was a 5 bedroom furnished executive home on 6.5 acres for $2600 -- I'd say compare that in California but I don't know anywhere you can get 6.5 acres. Ultimately, I chose to stay in my current location after being offered a position and salary bump but this is a great opportunity for the right person -- I just wasn't the right person at this time. Re: Help Wanted: Full Time 4D ProgrammerNeal,
I think the only place you'll find a house for sale for $2600 is outside the US -- someplace like Pakastan or India. This was a rental. Looking at recent listing, found a 4BR/3.5BA/3CG for $1650 as about the most expensive at <http://desmoines.craigslist.org/apa/1245959778.html>. For those that don't feel like looking, Urbandale is about 5 miles from where you'd be working. FWIW: When I lived in Mountain View, CA (south tip of SF Bay Area) about 7 years ago, I was paying $1400/month for a 2BR/1BA DUMP in a 7-plex -- and I mean that in the most flattering way. While I haven't looked recently, I doubt housing rentals have dropped. Re: Help Wanted: Full Time 4D ProgrammerSujit
Far from Mumbai, my mum lives in a small town near http://chandigarh.gov.in/(punjab, north india) and our small house price jumped 500% higher than a few years back. I think it is partly because of a new Airport being built nearby for 2012. House prices in India are not that cheap - http://www.hamptons.co.uk/propdetails.aspx?propertyref=INGUDD00001&id=192128&proptype=&Country=india&ptype=Development&RecNos=10 Also talking about 4D developer jobs. It is tough out there. Specially nothing much in UK. I got one day a week small contract job at the moment. Thanks to Edouard@... but it isn't going to pay all my bills. My other colleague who was made redundant luckily got a good job. But I think that was the only job available. BTW I am looking for contract work now as I am wrapping up things with Jobshout as Workstation has seized trading. Making sure our client sites are up and running with min. support. I am in a difficult situation but hopefully something good will come out of it. Difficulty is I wrote CMS in 4D couple of years ago. We didn't envisage the market and now even 4D's site is going to be powered by Drupal. Our solutions was good but rejected because of Drupal's licensing and open source flexibility. I don't think it was purely because of money as we offer CMS SAAS at almost the starting price which people pay just for hosting a site. Thank God I starting working on PHP/SQL Lamp stack too couple of years ago and get back into that market quickly. Anyway if I don't get a 4D job sooner I will have to train myself in Drupal or SharePoint etc. to make sure I get something at least which pays the bills. There is a list of some of the major projects I have developed mostly in 4D at http://bwalia.tenthmatrix.co.uk/ I can send my resume if anyone is interested to hire me. About me 4D Plugins used in the past or current MyConnect Plugin ITK 4D Write ( Extensively used it) NTK 4DIC Super reports – examples: * http://docs.daybook.co.uk/printing-bar-codes-from-daybook?iws_search=barcode http://downloads.daybook.co.uk/Packing_labels_1_304.pdf *Arealist 4D ODBC PRO.bundle ObjectTools Regex Zip 4D PDF995 – windows integration Specialist in Automation Integration Development Web Ecommerce SEO - http://www.jobshout.co.uk/jobshout_deploys_state_of_the_art_technology_for_seo_techniques.html CRM Content Management Project Management Desktop and web apps mashups Widgets Iphone apps ( learning to write in my own time ) Experience of one 4Dv11 data middleware project in real world - development and deployment As a Person I am dedicated, focused and trust worth individual with lot of technical experience to solve business problems. > nothing much in UK. Luckily we have a vertical market application that keeps me and some Odesk web designers going! We try to do most of our work in WordPress and is suffice for the websites our customers need. As 4D developers you do not get the safety and protection of an enterprise level budget where you can charge $1000 for each line of code. And you also cannot be part of a large development team as 4D is not scaled or suited for that either from the development or deployment point of view. 4D can be very addictive and you run the risk of narrowing your employment choices. Perhaps this is the best time to start something new or learn and work with more languages (perhaps C++ and other low level languages). When you get something better you can move on and put your project on the back burner. Develop a new product - open source it - or give it for free. I am sure you are doing all of this so anyway this is my $0.02 cents worth. ********************************************************************** Register for 4D Summit 2009 Today Early Bird Pricing Ends August 28th - http://www.4d.com/summit 4D Internet Users Group (4D iNUG) FAQ: http://www.4D.com/support/faqnug.html Archive: http://lists.4D.com/archives.html Options: https://lists.4d.com/mailman/options/4d_tech Unsub: mailto:4D_Tech-Unsubscribe@... ********************************************************************** |

I know a few project managers there. After the software project is complete they will estimate the cost on the number of lines of code and actual development time taken. Re: Help Wanted: Full Time 4D ProgrammerI would like to thank everyone who have asked me to send my resume. I really
do appreciate it. Another quick note: - I have started my own company last month - Tenthmatrix Information Systems Ltd. registered in England and Wales. So I will be able to work across the globe. Point is I am not just limited to work in EU. I can deliver in US / Australia too. However I'd prefer to work for myself as a contractor rather than permanent. - Doing website for it as we speak in Drupal - http://www.tenthmatrix.co.uk/ - Playing around with Drupal setup - theming, modules, CCK, Taxonomy, SEO, WYSIWYG editors etc. So far it looks like writing our own CMS systems in 4D was purely re-inventing the wheel scenario. Just making my point so that someone else can learn a lesson - before you write an application in any system make sure you have studied the target audience and absolutely sure there is a market for your ideas. Re: Help Wanted: Full Time 4D ProgrammerZahir,
I am in CMS mode for last 4-5 years actually. And in web mode for 10 years. That's why my company is called Tenthmatrix. No just kidding ... Drupal is very famous. I was at a Drupal Case studies Seminar recently ( courtesy - Sun Micro systems the other day ) and I found out some amazing facts about it. Big publishing companies love it. They are using it as it is very flexible and it has performed really well during high volume of traffic load. Out of the box features are great too. Many things are so much amazingly same as we did in Jobshout. Default pages, Themes, template processing, Cache, re-using code aspect of it... Also someone said Microsoft was packaging Drupal in a software bundle coming out soon or something like that...so there we go! I have done a site in Zoomla as well in the past. In fact I evaluated My Source matrix too couple of years ago. At that time CMS market was not matured enough so that we could create a VM product like Jobshout easily. Or at least I didn't realise even if it was. I have written CMS systems on line or off line ( 4D write based ) and amazing how world is changing the way we do things. Specially writing software. Or I should writing less code but it is more about customizing software and deliver what client wants...
