Help needed for MDA CompactHello,
I startet to use synce with a MDA Compact (the first one, running WM 2003). I run Opensuse 11.0, 32 Bit version and kernel 2.6.25.20-0.5-pae. I followed the instructions found on how to install synce for a legacy device in opensuse. After connecting the device via USB cable the phone starts ActiveSync, but this fails after a few seconds. (Remark, the documentation says to install libopensync-plugin-legacy, this is not present in the repository. Used libopensync-plugin-synce-legacy instead.) So far it looks as device and computer can not connect - pls does not show any files. Instead I only get messages like these: ** Message: Device /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_bb4_a07_noserial_if0_serial_usb_0 not fully set in Hal, skipping ** Message: Odccm is not running, ignoring pls: Could not find configuration at path '(Default)' dmesg shows: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4 usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice ipaq 2-1:1.0: PocketPC PDA converter detected usb 2-1: PocketPC PDA converter now attached to ttyUSB1 usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0bb4, idProduct=0a07 usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 usb 2-1: Product: PocketPC SmartPhone usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Intel. Deactivating the firewall does not help. NetworkManager is not active. Blacklisting ipaq module does not help too. (other than pls not showing usb_...device not fully set in Hal. Then I tried to remove all installed packages and install the source manually. No success either. odccm -f shows nothing, no debug message. Installing the most actual code from subversion without success, same results as before. Does anybody has an indea where to look? Any help is appreciated! If you edit /etc/synce-hal.conf and uncomment the line "loglevel: debug" you should get some more verbose information somewhere in /var/log ... > dmesg shows: > usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4 > usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice > ipaq 2-1:1.0: PocketPC PDA converter detected > usb 2-1: PocketPC PDA converter now attached to ttyUSB1 > usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0bb4, idProduct=0a07 > usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 > usb 2-1: Product: PocketPC SmartPhone > usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Intel. > > > Deactivating the firewall does not help. > NetworkManager is not active. > Blacklisting ipaq module does not help too. They conflict so if you have both installed remove odccm. > Installing the most actual code from subversion without success, same results > as before. > > Does anybody has an indea where to look? Thanks for the answer! Now i managed to connect to the device. I do not fully understand how to set it up in detail for a reliable connection. Anyway, I made a big progress. >> ** Message: Device /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_bb4_a07_noserial_if0_serial_usb_0 not fully set in Hal, skipping >> ** Message: Odccm is not running, ignoring >> pls: Could not find configuration at path '(Default)' >> > The device has been detected but something is blocking full > communication ... is synce-serial-chat up? It looks as the firewall blocked the device and the device itself needed to be configured (at least for the first connection). - firewall: Opensuse improved the firewall - even so it was stopped, the firewall started again when connecting the device. Maybe inside pppd? So I added ppp0 to the internal zone. I tried this inside a virtual machine, opensuse 11.0 installed, but not updated, and inside the host machine, all updates installed - with different results. The original installation did not restart the firewall. - device: The mda compact was never used before (after complete reset). I needed to set the network connection for the network card to PPTP NDISWAN Miniport. (German menus: Einstellungen->Verbindungen->Netzwerkkarten). Now it's time to sync the device.
