Help with G1 poly patch

Hi everyone,
I'm having some trouble with this patch.  It's a 2-voice sound I want, but the trouble is that when you hold down one note, and play two others, only one of the two new notes sounds.  How do I make newer notes a priority in a polyphonic patch?  Does it have something to do with the Keyboard - Patch module?  I haven't ever used it much.
Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated.  Even if you want to point me to a patch in the archive that demonstrates this, I can figure the rest out myself.  Thank you.

It was a long time since I patched in G1, but the Keyboard patch module might do the job, and give priority the the two latest notes. Connect Kbd patch latest note blue output to pitch in on vco (full clockwise right) and the KBT to zero.  If you want the LFO to be still there, use a mixer as CV mixer for LFO + keyboard note in. I can not check if it works right now on any hardware, but it is worth a trial.
I have never run in to the problem you discribe, but did some patches that could give 2 or 3 voice polyphony on a micromodular. I add three of them.
Good Luck

I appreciate your help. I've tried hooking up my patch in the way you describe with the keyboard-patch module, but it renders the patch monophonic.
I also took a look at your included patches (which sound very nice by the way!) --When taken down to 2 voices, they run into the same problem; newer notes don't take priority.
Hmmmm....

Thanks again

OK, I might have made a mistake there. Maybe the software do not allow last not priority. I have other Nord synths, and their standard is low note priority. On the other hand, it is good for guitar-like licks and other solo tricks.

Hi,

I think this behaviour is intentional. The NM has last note priority, with the exception of the lowest note (bass note). When note stealing is happening the voice stolen will be the next in line except the lowest note sounding. That way the bass note never will be stolen. It is the most noticable note when it gets stolen, so there is something to say for it.
Now when you only have 2 notes polyphony, the preservation of the bass note will render the last note priority extinct. That's what you are experiencing. With higher polyphonies this effect is less pronounced. But you can simple test it, the bass note will never get stolen.

Works as designed:)

Thank you everyone for your help.  I suppose I'll just have to play more staccato and set the release time longer so i don't run into the overlapping/missing note problem.

Thanks again

Trouble with velocity and noteout. G1

by Bjørn - Cujo :: Rate this Message:

Reply to Author | View Threaded | Show Only this Message

Hey hey.

im building some max patches, and i have hooked up my Nord Modular G1 as
a controller.
Works perfectly for most of what i need.

BUT!. im having a slight problem. the modular sends out the note# and
velocity on both note on and note off. which in Max let's me have the
info put in twice, instead of once.

now, before i go into some max patching to get around this problem- i
was trying to make the nord send only a velocity of 0 or 1, so i could
just patch it up like this. instead of having to add the note# and a lot
of unnecessary calculations.

but both in the system menu and the patch menu, i have tried changing
the VEL range, from 0-1 instead of 0-127, but it seems to still be
sending between 0 and 127 no matter what i type in there..
is this a bug???

also because i tried changing the key range from 0-1 instead of as well
127, but still sends out the key#. i tried saving the settings, and the
reboot the nord, still no change.

it's just that having a key on the nord be my start, stop, pause, start
loop, whatever. then it sends the info twice, which makes my patch not
do what i want in certain situations..
apart from that everything works fine.

now does anyone know what might be causing my velocity range to
permanently be 0-127?

hope you can help me.
thanks
yours
-Bjørn

Hello Cujo,

Personally I would simply do this in Max, it only takes about 5 seconds
to filter or convert a value of 0-127 to just 0-1 or whatever it is you
need.

Max can also filter based on notes on/off in a breeze, so that you don't
double trigger; as this is not an issue you need to 'work around' if you
set up the max modules correctly.

Better to remove the guns from the bullet, than to wear a bullet proof
vest...

Just my 2 cents though...

Seb.

Yea..

i didn't see it until yesterday evening. because i was having this x
pitch value on note-on.
and also the same pitch on note-off.

so i was into thinking that i should just have a number increasing when
the note was on, and increasing and returning to zero when note-off.
resulting in a filter not banging when the value was above the original
value.

anyway- i don't know why i was thinking in that manner, because of
course i could have the pitch value trigger a simple 0-1 value, and then
have bang only on the note-on.

so problem solved.. from there.
but i still wonder why my G1 doesn't react to the system settings i put
into it?
could this be local on/off, or something else? memory protect is off?

plan was to setup the G1 as a f&#/¤&%(" great controller, for a few
samplers, dj tools and some loops tools- just to have some fun live. :)

thanks for the help, because it gives me a different perspective on the
patch now. :)
