Hello,

I am using iText-2.1.4.jar for stamping PDF files with data. My environment is a Linux platform. I get the following error:

com.lowagie.text.DocumentException: Helvetica not found as resource. (The *.afm files must exist as resources in the package com.lowagie.text.pdf.fonts)

Any help in this matter would be appreciated? I have tried reading posts on this issue, but could not find a definitive answer.

It sounds like someone built the jar Incorrectly.  You can download one with all the requisite files at http://sourceforge.net/projects/itext/, or get the source there and use ANT to build it yourself.

I have updated to the latest JAR iText-2.1.7.jar and have lately noticed this issue once again in my JavaScript:

Internal Script error: ExceptionConverter: com.lowagie.text.DocumentException: Helvetica not found as resource. (The *.afm files must exist as resources in the package com.lowagie.text.pdf.fonts)

Does anyone know why this issue happens and what is the best way to fix it?

There are two errors in the above sentence:
1. you haven't upgraded to the latest iText-2.1.7.jar
If you had, you could open it and you'd find
    the afm files in com/lowagie/text/pdf/fonts/
See the attached screenshot: the jar is opened using 7-zip
You have either created the jar yourself (the wrong way),
or you have downloaded a jar from an unofficial site
(please explain where you've found it).
2. There's no JavaScript involved. What you should below
is a Java error. NOT a JavaScript error.

This is not an issue with the official iText.
It only happens when the files shown in the screenshot
are missing from the jar.

Another possibility: you are running a security manager in your app container. Even with "AllPermissions" also grant RuntimePermission("ClassLoader").

Hi,

I have upgraded to the latest JAR file which I downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/itext/
I am aware of the fact that the afm file is in the fonts directory. I have seen this issue before using iText2.1.4.
The font file was present and yet I was getting this error. I know this is a java jar file, what I was trying to get at is
my code base is javascript and I am using this jar. Regardless, I have seen this issue posted multiple times with no clear resolution?
My question is why do all jar builds have this issue, if the jar was built correctly in the first place? What is the correct resolution
To this fix this problem?
