Guys,

Any idea how I can twist some more charge out of a Kawasaki ZX-10 bike engine alternator?

I am rallying my 7, and with the fan and lights on, the battery only has enough charge for a few hours.

Here are some links.

Could you decrease power consumption instead of raising power production?

Just the other day I was wondering how active this forum still was, if any of the "old hacks" are still on here; Bazzer, Rich Miles, Ed Cane, Mike Field, Andy Borris, etc.

I live in the states and there's a trick here to make hot rods with no hoods look cleaner and hide the alternator...  They mount it under the car or in the trunk and drive it off the driveshaft.  You could add a second alternator this way and have plenty of juice.

Still here :-)

Old Hacks indeed!

Just the other day I was wondering how active this forum still was, if any of the "old hacks" are still on here; Bazzer, Rich Miles, Ed Cane, Mike Field, Andy Borris, etc.

Guys,

Any idea how I can twist some more charge out of a Kawasaki ZX-10 bike engine alternator?

I am rallying my 7, and with the fan and lights on, the battery only has enough charge for a few hours.

Here are some links.

And Nige, Rhodri and Chris.  I am still subscribed but BECs are a bit
more common nowadays and the "discoveries" and "how tos" are less an
issue.

There also seems to have been a migration to locostbuilders as a good
source of info for BECs.

Just wanted to say hi to all the old hacks from a seriously old hack! Good
to hear you¹re all still around.

Thanks for the elec power calculations Mike it might explain why I am now
on my 4th regulator (1 Honda, 2 Honda patterns, and 1 indeterminate finned
regulator that has lasted better than all the others) on my MK Blade. They
all get hot. I have moved the new one to the cooler side of the engine
compartment and mounted it for the best possible heat soak. Hoping it will
last a bit better.

I am now selling my 07 registered Sylva Riot ZZR as new condition if
anyone is interested. I have bought a much older BEC a 1928 JAP powered
Morgan Super Aero for the wife to race to be precise and need the space.

I still lurk despite having sold mine 5 years ago! I can't help but think
I'll build another,but this time I'll do it different/better :-)
Nobody asks anything I can help with so I stay quiet. It seems a pretty
mature technology now, not like 10 years ago eh lads?

I'd love to meet up and blag a ride in one to remind me what I'm missing.
Jim would seem the obvious choice as I think it was me at Brooklands that
got him hooked in the first place...

RE: Hi-power alternator needed for BEC

Sold mine at start of 2008 but had a go in Lee Champion's (ex-Jim's R1 Phoenix) on the North Weald msa sprint circuit and it brought back happy memories (once I'd decided to forego the ultra-light clutch and go for clutchless shifts). Still have naughty thoughts (but not space or budget) for another one.

And Nige, Rhodri and Chris. I am still subscribed but BECs are a bit
more common nowadays and the "discoveries" and "how tos" are less an
issue.

There also seems to have been a migration to locostbuilders as a good
source of info for BECs.
