Hollywood Model, Phase II - Practitioner ToolsI'd like to start a new series of tech discussions @ the complex in
the 11:30-12:30 Wed time slot. The theme is to complete the Hollywood Model (HM) that Steve has articulated so well. HM Phase I: Projects, like Movies, have a life cycle: the initial proposal, team organization, implementation, and team dispersion. Independent subcontracting is used to create an ecology which is very responsive to the movie industry. Our focus on projects within the complex is the first step in our own, Santa Fe Tech version of the HM. Our own version of Phase I But to complete the HM, we need Phase II: interoperability and standard frameworks. The tools that form the practitioner's kit, along with the interoperability that allow multiple practitioners to work together in order to form the project teams. Hollywood teams have a pipeline that includes standards and interoperability, but with latitude within groups as to how they perform their magic. So I'd like to start a set of discussions that focus on what technologies we feel are core to our projects within the complex. The first meeting will be broad, discussing the areas of interest such as modeling, visualization, deployment (web vs desktop). After we decide on our "ecology", we'll begin topical meetings. An example would be Roger's exploration into SVG recently, building a nifty clock entirely in JavaScript. Another would be Steve and I discussing the Merton project where we use GAE (Google App Engine) including Python on the server side, JavaScript (AJAX & Google Maps) on the client, and XML for communication between the two. -- Owen [Sorry for the wide mailing, but I didn't want to miss anyone who'd be interested.] _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@... http://lists.sfcomplex.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss http://www.nabble.com/sfComplex-Discuss-f33403.html |

Re: Hollywood Model, Phase II - Practitioner ToolsOwen and others,
I think this is a great suggestion and would like to participate in such discussions. Your suggested time slot works for me. Please keep me posted. -Corvas On Jun 26, 2009, at 1:15 PM, Owen Densmore wrote: > I'd like to start a new series of tech discussions @ the complex in > the 11:30-12:30 Wed time slot. Re: Hollywood Model, Phase II - Practitioner ToolsI think that the way Frankencircuit came together was a good example
of the "hollywood Model" if you will, Phil the director, (producer as well maybe) the artists as cast, Bill, Simon, Cyrus, Tyler and others as crew. And it was sucessful IMO in the first real example of the whole vision of the Complex. It only happened on site in the couple days before the event. If anyone wants to post their contact as a tech consultant for re:Make It! please do so. My plan is to start going to Meow Wolf starting next week and building and brewing some fun stuff that can be wired with lights, sound, etc. it would even be fun to build a project during the day on saturday, in a workshop environment.... In terms of what skills I can bring to a production: art department, set building, post production, sound design, I can also haul heavy shit around. My skills aren't really marketing, PR, and technical things. And sorry I can't make the wednesday meeting, it's my full day of work unfortunately. Re: Hollywood Model, Phase II - Practitioner ToolsDon't forget todays meeting! Fabio, Steve and I have been refining it
over the last few days, and several new ideas are popping up. Come help the thought process. -- Owen On Jun 26, 2009, at 1:15 PM, Owen Densmore wrote: > I'd like to start a new series of tech discussions @ the complex in > the 11:30-12:30 Wed time slot.
