Horizontal Viewer Text related to [Bug 484998]Yesterday I updated to 0.10.11 on both Windows 7 (32 bit) and XP SP3, Java chose yesterday to also update to 1.6.0_17.
On the positive side the program installed and runs a bit better than before. On Windows 7 I had been using XP compatibility mode to prevent odd behaviour, it now runs without (and no longer needs the UAC prompt). The "black screen" rendering bug seems to have gone from both operating systems. However on both machines the horizontal viewer was unreadable with the inherited settings. I have channel height = 17, 1 Hour width = 256, Font Arial 10. The program boxes seemed to have gained an increased internal border spacing which at 17 high is a significant proportion of the height. Secondly the personalised guide and program listing font has shrunk. The size of this font does change with the viewer font, but stays well below in size. This seems to be described in [Bug 484998]. Another bug mentions anti-aliasing of the program names and this also seems related, but the whole picture I am seeing. I temporarily set the font to Comic Sans 11 and captured this image. ![]() The program name box has no top and bottom spacing and so displays OK, however as you can see there is severe cut-off in the program boxes. This is not such a problem with larger values for height, say 20, but I am trying to cram as much in as possible. Should all of this have been covered by your previous fixes referenced above then I will look forward to their public release. In the meantime am making do with a registry fix to "size/Half/Ver/Gap" set to 0 and using an undersize Lucidia Sans 11 font which increases the listing font to a usable size while staying inside the box. |

I suspect that may be more to do with Java versions than FreeGuide, but I'm not sure. > However on both machines the horizontal viewer was unreadable with the > inherited settings. I didn't change anything to do with the programme labels - I think there has always been a 4-pixel margin on the programme labels (since version 0.10). > Secondly the personalised guide and program listing font has shrunk. Yes, thank you - your email and another made me realise I hadn't quite fixed this bug as I had thought I had. I have now (hopefully) fixed it properly. > In the meantime am making do with a registry fix to "size/Half/Ver/Gap" set > to 0 and using an undersize Lucidia Sans 11 font which increases the listing > font to a usable size while staying inside the box. I think it is reasonable to want to remove that 4-pixel margin from the programme labels, but I looked into it tonight and it looks tricky - we would have to create our own class that inherits from javax.swing.border.AbstractBorder. If anyone wants to implement this I'd be happy to help any way I can. Re: Horizontal Viewer Text related to [Bug 484998]Hi Andy,
Yes I agree the border has always been there in previous versions. I understand the (at least superficially) complexity of classes. However is the channel name label already a modified class or is it rendered in a different way to the program label, because if it is a similar text box then it doesn't have a border. This comment is in ignorance of the source and so may be nonsense coming purely from the rendered result. Please do not waste time on a reply to this open ended comment, and if not useful I apologise for the time waste. -----Original Message----- From: Andy Balaam [mailto:andybalaam@...] Sent: 26 November 2009 23:24 To: Stokersson Cc: freeguide-tv-users@...
