How set up for a spinoff was "The Doctor's Daughter?"

I finally am seeing the end of my love for the new Doctor Who.

WARNING TO NON-UK PEOPLE. SPOILERS BE A-COMING

Jenny, the youthful, blonde, new Gallifreyan on the block.  Two hearts, dies, rejuvenates a little too much like  Rose Tyler and then, to cap it all, flies off telling the guy on the base that she got planets to save, people to see and running to do?

How much of that was setting up for a new series for CBBC, d'ya think?  Oh, I reckon about all of it.

Catherine Tate's Donna is getting stronger, Martha is hopefully gone and David Tennant's quif is about to out act him - despite a wonderful return of the upset he showed when The Master died in - dare I mention it - "The Last of the Timelords."  But this Jenny character has that, excuse me, spunky, quirky kick ass girl thing going on a little too much for it not to be screaming out teenage role model.  Quick! Let's create a new cash cow calling it, "Jenny Who" or "It's Jenny's Time" or something.

Is this just me thinking this?

Far too set up for my liking.  I don't think I like the whole daughter thing.

She's exactly the same as him, yet she can't regenerate.  Then wow she just happens to manage it via a different route.  Anyway if the place was only a week old and already generations in.  It should be a pretty short lifespan she's looking at.

I was thinking the daughter bit may have a link to Susan but this doesn't look likely now.

Yes, I actually thought that bit was a bit weak - she should have regenerated, that would have been a better ending.  Not sure there's going to be a spin off, but she will certainly be back.  Could it have been her hand at the end of Last of the Timelords?

You know, I wondered that, too.

Only I keep thinking that's the hand of The Rani.

That slightly wrinkly hand and the high laugh.  It's got Kate O'Mara written all over it.

Now, who could play an updated Rani, I wonder..?

Oh God. The Doctor's Daughter was so fucking trite and predictable. Did anyone NOT see her coming back to life. Just another character to squeeze into the season finale. And have a series all of their own.

I also love the way all the publicity was "Shock, Horror. The Doctor has a daughter!" Well, no, actually he doesn't REALLY. And anyway, have we all forgotten Susan.

Don't make me sick into my own scorn.

Hmm. Seems like Season 4 has produced its first turkey (for me anyway)...

Looking forward to saturday though. As a lifelong Christie fan (with every book she ever wrote) I'm quite keen to see how many in-jokes Gareth Roberts can squeeze into 45 minutes that only fellow Christie fans will get!
