How to auto start Java application form browser

Hello,

  I would like to create "desktop" application that is started similarly as www.WebEx.com directly from web browser. Do you know what technology is employed into WebEx to achieve this goal in all web browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Fire fox) ? It is not simple Java Web Start. What are other options for me instead of JWS ?
