Hi all,

One of our client machines has an Nvidia card. I've seen the DRBL FAQ about getting the modules and I have a couple of questions about how to get the client to use the Nvidia driver.

Our Server and clients use the same kernel. I believe the restricted Nvidia packages are already installed on the Server - that is I get a list of Nvidia files when I use 'locate nvidia'.

When the client boots the xorg log identifies nvidia but cannot identify the chipset:

(II) NV: driver for NVIDIA chipsets: RIVA 128, RIVA TNT, RIVA TNT2,
(--) Chipset Unknown NVIDIA chip found
(--) NV(0): Chipset: "Unknown NVIDIA chipset"

The clients has the nvidia module (I've added this to the specific clients modules file), and there is nvidia-kernel in the /etc/init.d

In the /etc/X11 there is no xorg.conf, so do I need to add the nvidia-kernel service and how do I create an xorg-conf file for the client to use.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Tim.

Hi Tim,
Which version of GNU/Linux are you using?
Some distribution, e.g. Ubuntu 9.04, by default /etc/X11/xorg.conf does
not exist anymore. However, you can manually create that. I mean to use
a text editor to write it.

Steven.
