Howto install Csound5.09-i368d on an EEE PC900 with linux?

My EEEPC is the 900 with 20GB drive and the strange Asus/Xandros linux.
I've tried a few things but csound won't install.

I used gunzip to unzip it, tar -xvf to extract the files and directories, and then hunted for something sensible as to how to install it.
Eventually I found the installer. Ran that by typing 'sudo installer' and it failed because the libfltk file was missing.
So I downloaded V1.1 from the Xandros repository using synaptic.

Tried again, it gets a step further and fails with a red window that is asking for some sort of configuration file.

Does anybody have a nice easy to follow set of instructions? The manual is not exactly helpful! Building from source is explained better than a simple install.

The version of csound in the Xandros repository is 4.something and I would quite like to use the latest and greatest version.

It is so long since I used csound files are .orc and .sco, and on Mac OS9 at that! And what a nice easy install that was for MacCsound.
