I need a little assistance

I have the 2 GB ipod nano and i tried to install linux to it, my friend told me it was posible and i may have screwed up,   I get an error triangle next to a folder every time i boot my ipod,   also my comp says that there is an ipod in my usb port but I cannot access it and it doesn't come up in itunes..      I tried using the ipod updater and all i got was a long initiazing screen that goes no where with no load..........    I was wondering if you could help me out by telling me how to fix my problems
