I need help disabling the "writer-mode" on OpenOffice

I am still new at using your OpenOffice.org program and I must have accidently touched the wrong icon "overwrite" which erases what I try and type. The "undue" icon does not help to correct the problem. I'm sure there is a simple solution, but I don't know what it is. Can you help me?

Thanks, Yvonne

Hi Yvonne
 From the Help page

    With the keyboard:

Press *Insert* to toggle between overwrite mode and insert mode. The
current mode is displayed on the Status Bar.

Hope this helps
Cliff

I'm not sure if I understand your problem, but it sounds as if you may
have hit the key labeled "Ins" (or Insert, maybe), which toggles the
behavior when editing between inserting newly typed characters within
the existing text, or overwriting that text. If so, hitting that key
again should get you back into Insert mode. In any case, though, the
Undo icon (or Edit > Undo, or Ctrl-x) should remove any changes you
accidentally made. Did this not happen, or do you just mean that when
you typed in new text again, it still did the overwrite?

Hi Yvonne,

>accidently touched the wrong icon"overwrite"<

Note that along the bottom line of a Writer document, near the center, is a box which should say "OVER" or "INSERT" to tell you whether you are in the overwrite or insert mode.

What's more, it acts as a button which you can click to toggle the setting.
