Maybe it's true this time, maybe it's an IBM spoiling tactic. RE: IBM make zPDT available for ISVHello!
I hear practically the same thing, every time I am at a briefing of IBM's that makes use of the kit. Naturally it's running Z/OS and their web applications server kit. I agree though about a URL for this announcement. And what does the firm consider a valid fee? A few thousand USD does sound like the classic spoiler tactic. -- Gregg C Levine hansolofalcon@... I agree. The firm described at the location will be making the hardware available under the usual caveats. I suspect that the software for the system to do its job would be available via PWD as well. -- Gregg C Levine hansolofalcon@... "The Force will be with you always." IBM has now published three manuals on zPDT but not yet disclosed to PWD and other developers the details of the zPDT program. it seems to be a rather peculiar way of "announcing" zPDT. yvette hirth |

It is, to the point that many people assumed it was just another rehash of the same rumours that have been circulating for at least a couple of years. Well, it's quite possible they "announced" it to *some* developers, perhaps those who already have NDAs for things like the ADCDs, or early support programs or the like. I imagine they would want to keep the whole thing pretty low key; heaven forbid that actual customers get to hear of such a thing! Tony H. |

RE: Re: IBM make zPDT available for ISVMy information is that you must be a PartnerWorld developer qualified for
zSeries software. The system is designated as a "1090", and consists of a USB dongle (for licensing) and the "1090" software (simulator). IBM specifically supports several hardware platforms, AFAIK, all of which are from Lenovo. Other hardware platforms may work, but are NOT supported by IBM. The system is Linux-based, and can support from 1-3 simulated zSeries processors, which can be individually configured as CP, IFL, zIIP, or zAAP. The USB dongle is separately priced at $299. Software pricing is dependent on the number of simulated zSeries processors, with a single processor license priced at $3,750. ISV licensees will be able to obtains z/LINUX, z/OS, z/VM, and z/VSE through the PartnerWorld program. The license is for development only. Production workloads are NOT permitted. John P.
