Dear Colleagues:
Having helped to maintain fink's PyMOL package, I am passing along the
devastating news that PyMOL's primary author, Dr. Warren DeLano, has
passed away at age 37. He was both a valued colleague and friend. A
memorial is posted here:
http://www.jmdelano.com/Warren was a strong advocate of open-source software, and although he
could have easily held a top university or biotech post, based upon
his multitude of talents, he started his own company that would permit
him to devote himself full-time to PyMOL, using service contract and
incentive-product proceeds to sponsor an open-source version of the
program (the one available via fink and macports) that is in several
important respects superior. Figures of macromolecular structures
created with PyMOL continue to grace the covers of journals like
Nature, Science and Cell on a monthly basis.
I will attempt to keep fink's PyMOL available and up to date to the
best of my very limited abilities.
Yours sincerely,
William G. Scott
