Iogen also develops, manufactures and markets enzymes used to modify and improve the processing of natural fibres within the textile, animal feed, and pulp and paper industries. Immediate requirements at our Ottawa headquarters include the following: Sr/Int Process Engineer - Enzyme Scope: Iogen Corporation is looking for self-motivated, enthusiastic process engineers who are interested in applying their engineering expertise in the development of a leading edge renewable fuels technology. Successful candidates will become members of the engineering team responsible for the scale-up and design of the world's first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant. The role will focus on process development, scale-up, and generating the necessary data needed to execute a design. As well, they will support senior engineers in activities related to the scale-up and design of the various process operating units that comprise the commercial ethanol plant. Duties & Responsibilities: * Lead or participate in the process design of fermentation plant operation. Key responsibilities include establishing scale-up methodologies, managing vendor equipment trials, managing field evaluations in current demonstration facilities, data analysis, and process optimization. * Assist senior engineers in conducting studies and executing process design for capital upgrade projects. This would include: analysis of different process configurations, mass and energy balances, preparation of PFDs and P&IDs, equipment specifications, HAZOP studies, capital and operating cost estimates risk analysis, and preparation of SOPs, start-up and commissioning and operator training. * Assist senior engineers in managing outside consultants responsible for preparing technology packages. * Participate as a member of the technical cross-functional team alongside Process R&D and Manufacturing. Qualifications: Candidates must have a B.Sc. in chemical or bio-chemical engineering and will have three to ten years of process engineering experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, beverage or other biotechnology/fermentation-related industries. In addition, the following qualifications are required: * Experience in industrial scale unit operations with an emphasis on fermentation, propogation, solid-liquid separations, membrane separations, mixing or solid handling. * Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies. * Ability to innovate in both the technology development and process operations areas.
