Imported EPS icons from Illustrator Produce Non-Filled Characters

I've followed the tutorial on importing Illustrator images and it seems to work, except that all I get is outlines-- I've tried CS3, Illustrator 10 and Illustrator 3 formats.  I'm trying to import a black logo.  I keep thinking I'm missing some step like where I'd click to fill in those outlines so it looks like it did in Illustrator.  But reading and re-reading the tutorial leaves me to assume that it should be filled already.  Right?
How do I get an eps file to be filled in FontForge?

Mac X.5.8

By default, FontForge does not display outlines as filled. If you want
them filled set the menu item: View->Show->Fill

I think I've miss-communicated.  The actual font created by FontForge is only outlines, not just what I view in the application.  The menu item you mentioned just shows the outlines "filled" (or what appears to be bolder outlines within the FontForge application), but it doesn't actually fill the outline to create a solid character in the resultant font.
