Improper quit cleanup for 0.8.7Greetings;
I built 0.8.7 in order to get a working tv watcher for my pcHDTV-3000 card. Its only semi-stable. 1. I can only change 'channels' 2 or 3 times before it locks up. 2. I built it --with-gstreamer, and it always assumes that is the default engine, the selection of xine-lib doesn't 'stick' from session to session. 3. If I use the close button, the gui goes away but it leaves a process called kaffeine running that must be 'kill'ed before it will run again. 4. If I'm watching digital tv (I haven't checked other functions for this) it builds a DVB-* file in the users dir that can fill a 500Gb drive in just a few hours, and it doesn't delete it when you quit, leading to amanda (the premier backup utility) having a tummy ache because one of its Disk List Entries suddenly grew by 50Gb because I watched tv for a couple of hours and forgot to delete that file. 5. the configure screen locks/crashes with the apply button 'down', and has to be killed by x's process killer, so actually configuring it can't be done. 6. It stops playing digital tv when I go away from its screen, and starts back up with the audio out of sync when I come back to that screen. Normally I like to do other things while listening only, and go look at it when something interesting is being talked about. This may be configurable, but can't be due to the configurators locks/crashes. I used to use tvtime for this, and it simply shut off the video overlay, reducing the cpu load when I was 'off-screen' leaving the audio live. 7. The format of the channels file is a question mark, needs documented. Are these things being attended to?, and if so, do you have another release scheduled shortly? I'm sorry if I come across as a bitcher, so I also give you many thanks for a great program. It is the only one that works since I rebuilt this box with a new motherboard and a pci-e video card, a Diamond HD-2400 Pro, chipset ati rv610 on it. -- Cheers, Gene "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Re: Improper quit cleanup for 0.8.7Hi,
First, removing the gstreamer part should make some of the issues go away. I know that this isn't the ideal solution, but most distros aren't even building the gstreamer backend because it doesn't work very well (for different reasons). 4+6 belong together: pausing starts timeshift, which creates those files. So we have to find out why configuring doesn't work. The last or the last two timeshift files are kept, older ones should be deleted. But they're only growing 1-2 GB per hour over here ... 7 It's documented in the source tree somewhere, but you aren't particularly expected to mess around them manually. Ok, so I hope this helps as a first step, Christoph 2009/1/7 Gene Heskett <gene.heskett@...>: > Greetings; > > I built 0.8.7 in order to get a working tv watcher for my pcHDTV-3000 card. > Its only semi-stable. > > 1.
