Installing Subversion on Ubuntu 8.4

I want to install Subversion (client+server) on Ubuntu 8.4 64bit.

The problem is that using the default repos, aptitude will install a version from stone-age (1.4.6).

2 ideas come to mind:
a) using the alien installer to install the 1.6.4-RPM-package
b) using some other repo-servers that allow to install version 1.6.5

Somebody here having experience using one of either ways?

I think we're up to 1.6.6 now but I've used the alien method and it
works well on Ubuntu LTS 6 and 8.
