Installing on a web host

I have only recently come across Midgard.

Can it be installed on any web host that is unix based?
Or do you need to go with a web host that specifically supports Midgard?

On the page
http://www.midgard-project.org/documentation/midgard-source-installation-dependencies/
it lists various requirements.

How many of these could be expected to already be installed on a web host that
implements Unix, Apache, PHP and mySQL?

Would we need to install some custom packages as well in order to use Midgard?

Midgard needs it's own apache module installed, this requires root
access on the server, so unless this is a dedicated (virtual or real)
server it might be impossible for you to have that access. Though you
might be able to persuade the hosting provider to install Midgard for
you (and maybe even set up a dedicated midgard hosting server for
themselves, Midgard lends itself excellently to shared hosting).

My web host is happy to look at unix-compatible applications to install.

I have also been looking at Midcom, but cannot see how it is actually installed.

If I contact my web host with regard to installing Midgard and Midcom, to which
pages should I direct them for information?

MidCOM is mostly in the filesystem, of course having common MidCOM for
all users is a good idea but strictly speaking it can be installed just
about anywhere.

Anyways, the midgard-data package which initializes the database etc
contains a version of midcom (not the latest one but anyways), so if
they install in the recommended way midcom will be included.
