Insteon link via web

Hi all,

I'm following the instructions on the wiki about linking via the web
page but I don't see "link to interface" anywhere in the web page.

I'm running the latest svn code, has this changed?

Any help appreciated thanks.

George

Try MisterHouseHome->BrowseCategories->Insteon->(Your Object)

Yes, as it turns out one has to have an IPLL device defined, IPLD won't
do it apparently.  So how one links a PLM and an LampLink other than
manually is beyond me.

Cheers and thanks

You don't need to link the PLM and LampLink because Misterhouse is in
charge of the PLM and does what it needs to change Light states.

You need to link a IPLL to an IPLD if you want the IPLL to control
the IPLD without misterhouse involved in the interchange.

Hope that makes sense.

More specifically linking a device to the PLM lets the device send an update
to the PLM when its state was locally changed (i.e. via some local control).
In the case of a lamplinc, it cannot change its own state, that has to be
initiated by another device which you then program to tell the PLM too, so
the PLM knows your lamplinc changed because the light switch you pressed
sent the update to the lamplinc and the PLM.

So the information that is missing from **all** the web pages is:

You can use IPLD or IPLL for a module and it will work but only IPLL
will show up in the web page as a link item.

For example I can define an Appliance module as an IPLD and it will work
just fine, but I really want to define it as an IPLL so I can link with
it because it has a small button on the duplex receptacle to turn the
outlet on and off.

Right?

I've never done that, but I *think* you're right. Otherwise there would be
no way to get state that was changed locally.
Of course this is assuming that an appliance module has the logic to link to
other insteon devices and report state changes, for that you'd have to look
at the technical specs or wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to
chime in.
