Interface/overlap with other working groupsAll, Attached are my notes from the GEC working group meeting discussion about the overlap between substrate and the other working groups. The notes on these slides are based on a review of my notes and the audio from the session. Please check that any items you feel strongly about in this regard are appropriately represented. I will add your input to the notes before posting these materials. The session made it clear that there is a significant need for exchange between substrate and the other working groups. There are some near term questions that need to be addressed, and, as the design matures more detailed interactions and formalized mutual design efforts will become necessary. The notes here are not intended to be a complete picture of the interfaces and interactions, but rather a starting point for future activities. One action item from this session is that the GPO needs to establish a mechanism to facilitate the information exchanges that are called out in this summary. This will likely take the form of documentation as well as representatives that can act as liaisons between groups. The system engineers will take on a large share of this responsibility. Once the mechanism(s) is established, we can further prioritize specific topics and establish a timeline for the interactions. I welcome your ideas, and expect to work this issue with Aaron Falk in the near term.

Security, data collection and management, and slice management were major topics of discussion with identified overlaps in our group. Separating the experimental changes in the network from the operational changes was reported as already being a problem on existing research networks, and it will be more challenging on GENI. I also sent our meeting notes to the OMIS working group to get more input before posting them on geni.net, but if anyone in this group would like to look at the advance draft, they are in the OMIS mailing list archives: http://lists.geni.net/pipermail/omis-wg/2007-November/000008.html > > The session made it clear that there is a significant need for > exchange between substrate and the other working groups. Same for OMIS. We want to see some joint working group sessions, and liasons working some of these issues also. I'll ask the OMIS members to take a look at your notes and post to your list to get some exchange started. > There are some near term questions that need to be addressed, and, as > the design matures more detailed interactions and formalized mutual > design efforts will become necessary.
