Interplay of ICT standards and IPR in the EU

*European Union. The DG Enterprise recently published a call for tenders
for a study on interplay between standards and IPRs *

The DG Enterprise recently published a call for tenders for a study on
interplay between standards and intellectual property rights (IPR) (Call
for tender no. ENTR/09/015, published in OJ 2009/S 136 of 18/07/2009).

The main objective of the study is to provide a quantified up-to-date
description of the situation regarding the inclusion of IPRs in
standards of its economic impact and related disputes.

It shall also propose an explanation for variations in the type and
recurrence of the disputes according to differences in legal and
business practices and business models in different sectors/sub-sectors
or economic areas. Finally, it shall highlight the main issues to be
addressed in the interplay of IPRs and standards and identify a number
of observed solutions.

The deadline for the submission of tenders is 25th September 2009.
