Intro and Issues

Hey all, new guy Chris here. I didn't find a similar topic in this list
archive for the past year.

I just put Ubuntu on my 14 year-old laptop. The details are here:

http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Ubuntu_on_a_ThinkPad_750P

This machine has a 33MHz 486 and 36MB RAM; no CD drive at all; no USB
ports; no PCI support; no ACPI; unsupported video chip.

But it does have a working floppy drive and PCCard NIC. I got Dapper Drake
installed and running, but just barely.

The main issue I had was that the netboot files (linux and initrd.gz) for
Gutsy and Feisty crashed just after startup, even when using the 386
kernel. I can provide a debug dump from home.

The images for Dapper and Edgy both work fine.

I'd like to help in a couple of ways: To ensure that Ubuntu works on the
absolute minimum that is claimed (which is currently a 486 and 32MB RAM),
and to try to get all the devices on this laptop working: sound, GUI,
suspend, resume, hibernate, and the pen. Yes, it's a convertible tablet.

Also, how up-to-date can I get before my system isn't supported any more?

What are my next steps?

Chris
