Is it possible to not show the contact list at startup?

I've put gossip in my gnome session such that it starts up
automatically. I haven't found a way such that the contact list does
not show up at startup. Is this possible? If not I think it would be a
good feature to implement

It should start in the same condition it is quitted. That being that if
you quit from the notification area with the roster hidden, it should
start that way, if it doesn't, it is a bug.

If gossip starts up faster than the notification area applet, then it
doesn't hide the roster window, irrespective of how it was when shutdown.

I guess that's what happening with me then

Is that bug in bugzilla?
Seems like a tricky bug to solve. You can't wait forever for a
notification area to be there. Though I think almost anybody runs a
notification window

Maybe the applet needs to emit some kind of dbus signal to indicate that
it's up and we can now stuff it with wonderful gossip goodness?

We have plans to rework this area anyway so that the notification area
is only used when you have new messages or new events, an applet will be
used instead hopefully for continuous visibility of your context
menu/status/etc.

The current applet that we have Peekaboo, that just needs some love :)
