Is this still possible for D7?

I marked it for D8... however, is this still a change that can be made
in D7 at this point, or is the time past for that? Being a performance
issue, it's something I would like to see sooner rather than later if
possible.

Great news! Any DBTNG pros mind looking at patching this in D7? I will
try to muddle through it, but my DBTNG experience is pretty minimal.
