Is this the proper place to report a bug ?Dear ESS users,
this morning, after a partial upgrade of Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS, ESS has disappeared. Actually the system warned me that the previous ESS (5.3.1) would have been removed. I'm back in business, since I installed it again by downloading and untarring the file. The problem is that when I tried to install ESS through sudo apt-get install ess I received the following message (sorry; it's in italian) > I seguenti pacchetti hanno dipendenze non soddisfatte: > ess: Dipende: dpkg (>= 1.15.4) ma 1.14.16.6ubuntu4 sta per essere > installato oppure > install-info ma non è installabile > E: Pacchetto non integro with an esortation to report the bug. Is this the proper place to do this ? If not, where should I report ? Re: Is this the proper place to report a bug ?Ottorino,
This is actually my fault since I build the CRAN ESS package for Ubuntu. Somebody else reported to me that the package does not install. I don't have the time to correct the situation for now, so I pulled the package off CRAN. Give some time for the mirrors to update, run "apt-get update" and the system should not bother you with ESS. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. But, it seems like there is a dependency on dpkg!?! Please report this bug to Ubuntu. If you want to install ESS the old fashioned way, then see http://ess.r-project.org/ Any bugs you encounter then, please report here. As i said, I went back to the old untarring procedure. Only five minutes. So, as far as I understand, there's no need to report the bug to Ubuntu, right ? ______________________________________________ ESS-help@... mailing list https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/ess-help |

You get the new ess from your including of the CRAN repositories in your /etc/apt/sources file.
