Issue Report - Queries with dash in value get nothing

Some parts of this message have been removed.

Hi All,
It seems that this is an unreported issue, according to https://issues.sonatype.org/browse/NEXUS.
The Issue: when doing the Keyword Search or GAV Search, type
in value with dash in it (for example, mysql-connector-java), 0 record will
return, the repo does contain a few artifacts with artifactId=mysql-connector-java
though.
Version: Sonatype Nexus Open Source 1.3.6 (nexus-webapp-1.3.6.war)
Environment: Red Hat 3.4.6-8, Sun JDK 1.5.0_12, Tomcat 5.5.27
Anybody saw the same issue? Is there any workaround?
Thanks,
John Wu

Re: Issue Report - Queries with dash in value get nothing
Hi John,
1.3.6 does support the searches you are doing.
(both of which also work properly when using the GAV search as well)
So my question is, have these artifacts already been proxied to your local nexus ?
I ask because I want to make sure you aren't expecting these results to show up, unless one of the following has occurred
- nexus has downloaded a nexus index from the remote repository
- you have already requested the artifact via maven (from your nexus server, which will cache the remote artifact locally)
without either of those taking place, nexus will have no idea that the artifact exists on the remote repository.
I can see that this artifact is in fact out on central, so if you haven't already, you should go to your central repository configuration in nexus, and set 'Download Remote Indexes' to true, and save. Nexus will then download the remote index and merge locally (this can take 5-10 minutes), you can see when the task is complete by viewing the 'System changes in Nexus' System feed, there will be an entry when the task starts, and when it completes.
Hopefully this gets you in the right direction.
Let me know if this helped
Thanks
Damian

Re: Issue Report - Queries with dash in value get nothing
I've seen this issue. Try this: 1. Go to https://repository.apache.org (Nexus 1.3.6) 2. Search for "jboss-j2se" - no hit 3. Search for "j2se" - you will get 2 hits, among them "jboss-j2se".
I tried the same on http://repository.sonatype.org (Nexus 1.4.0-SNAPSHOT) and the issue does not exist there. Most likely it has been fixed for 1.4.0. /Anders

Yes, I can confirm that the artifact does exist in the repo. I
can access it via the file system, can see it in the search results for ‘connector’.
But no result at all for ‘mysql-connector-java’.

Re: Issue Report - Queries with dash in value get nothing
I do in fact see the problem that anders mentioned w/ jboss-j2se, not sure why i don't see that same issue with your mysql-connector-java artifact...but that is beside the point, seems there is a bug in 1.3.6 that is fixed in 1.4.0 (release is still a little bit out, i can't say exactly when, but we are talking weeks, not months).
Someone had opened up a similar ticket on this eons ago, let me see if i can track down when exactly this issue was resolved
Thanks

Re: Issue Report - Queries with dash in value get nothing
I found the original ticket, and this was fixed in Nexus Indexer 2.0 (which wasn't integrated until 1.4.0 was started) so this explains why you still see the issue in 1.3.6. I thought it was already resolved for that release, but was not the case. So hopefully you can give it a bit more time, when you can upgrade to 1.4 release.
Thanks
Damian

I do in fact see the problem that anders mentioned w/ jboss-j2se, not sure why i don't see that same issue with your mysql-connector-java artifact...but that is beside the point, seems there is a bug in 1.3.6 that is fixed in 1.4.0 (release is still a little bit out, i can't say exactly when, but we are talking weeks, not months).
Someone had opened up a similar ticket on this eons ago, let me see if i can track down when exactly this issue was resolved
Thanks

Yes, I can confirm that the artifact does exist in the repo. I can access it via the file system, can see it in the search results for ‘connector’. But no result at all for ‘mysql-connector-java’.
I’m using: Sonatype Nexus Open Source 1.3.6 (nexus-webapp-1.3.6.war)
Environment: Red Hat 3.4.6-8, Sun JDK 1.5.0_12, Tomcat 5.5.27

What version of Nexus are you using?
