JACK (for Windows) + iTunesHey all,
I'm a relatively new JACK user, but I'm doing some audio and applied acoustics research at Princeton University, and was just wondering if there is a relatively simple way to connect iTunes through JACK in a Windows environment. I'm running the latest version of JACK for Windows (v1.9.2) on a Vista machine. The ultimate goal is to use JACK to reroute iTunes' output to Plogue Bidule (modular audio software), where it can be processed for research purposes. However, I am unable to see iTunes after pressing the "Connect" button in Qjackctl, even when actively playing a song. I'm also running JACK OS X on a Macbook Pro, and had none of these problems, so I'm hoping there is a quick fix I can employ for the Windows version. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated! More seriously only ASIO compatible applications can currently see the JACK server on Windows using the JackRouter ASIO/JACK bridge. I don't think iTunes can access ASIO compatible cards on Windows so no solution with iTunes. You may have to use other AISO applications on Windows to play the files to be sent to Plogue Bidule. How can that work? How to you *connect* iTunes to other JACK clients? > Stephane _______________________________________________ Jack-Devel mailing list Jack-Devel@... http://lists.jackaudio.org/listinfo.cgi/jack-devel-jackaudio.org |

Re: JACK (for Windows) + iTunesAs it was said ASIO must be supported in windows if you want to work with jack, which is not the case with iTunes.
As long as you only want to work with audio you have several players with ASIO support, especially Foobar2000 and Winamp (thanks to a plugin, not very hard to find) Also found a player called xmplay supporting ASIO, VLC is not so far from supporting it too (but it as been disabled in current versions...) I've been using that configuration for 6 months at least, for the same purpose as you, works like a charm even with multichannel sound !! It gets a little harder if you try watching video but I also managed to do that after tearring out most of my hair. MacOS has a much more simple audio architecture, which probably explains why your config works under MacOS. > Hello > Just a 411. iTunes does work with Jack on Windows but does not > actually show up in the connections > It just comes through the system in and out. > > I have used it many times and it does work. Quite weird (and very cool !!!), Jackd keeps the soundcard available for WDM (or directsound or so) applications while using ASIO, which is usually not the case with ASIO applications. That's why you can hear it but it won't show up in qjackctl
