JOB: Senior lecturer in Biostatistics at Karolinska InstitutetKarolinska Institutet
invites applications for a Senior lecturer in Biostatistics Department Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics Area of responsibilities/description of the work We are seeking a highly qualified person with a strong record of scientific accomplishments and interest in teaching to strengthen academic research and education in biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet. The research performed under the leadership of the successful candidate should ideally strengthen or complement the current focus areas in our biostatistics group, which include register-based research, statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology, and high-throughput data analyses. The successful candidate will be involved in training and supervision of postgraduate students in epidemiology and biostatistics in collaboration with other researchers in the Department. We are looking for applicants with a solid background in biostatistical methodology. Applicants must have contributed to the field as demonstrated by scientific publications in leading international journals in biostatistics or related disciplines. Applicants must have developed an independent research profile as principal investigator. Qualifications The applicant must have a doctoral degree in statistics, biostatistics or closely related disciplines, be an active researcher and committed to postgraduate supervision and teaching. Furthermore, we require pedagogical teacher training (comprising at least 5 weeks) or equivalent. Previous collaborative experience in medical research is highly desirable. In the assessment, the merits of the applicant will be weighed as follows: Scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), skills in leadership, development and collaboration (1). The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, MEB, (http://ki.se/meb) was formed in 1997, and is based in the Northern Campus of KI and today employs approximately 220 persons. At the department research is carried out within etiologic, clinical, genetic and molecular epidemiology and within biostatistics. The Department has extensive national and international collaborations. MEBs academic biostatistics group is the largest of its kind in Sweden and among the largest in the Nordic countries. At present the group comprises of approximately 20 people, including 3 full professors and 3 senior lecturers, 7 PhD and 5 MSc-level research-biostatisticians, and 2 graduate students, and we are continually recruiting more postdoc-level researchers. The group is involved in theoretical and applied biostatistics research, especially in the areas of statistical genetics, bioinformatics and registry-based epidemiologic modelling. Collaboration with medical researchers is especially strong, because, instead being a separate unit, the group is fully integrated in the open research environment in Department.
