Applications are invited for the post of medical statistician to join the

methodological research programme and teaching. Members of the Centre

located in an attractive site at Wolfson College in North Oxford.

You would be expected to provide major input into a number of concurrent
collaborative projects as the primary statistician and would deal directly
with the multi-disciplinary project team. You would also be expected to
teach on an annual course for clinicians and scientists. The successful
applicant is likely to have a postgraduate qualification in applied or
medical statistics, and several years’ relevant experience working as a
medical statistician.

Located in a stimulating statistical environment with career enhancement
encouraged by CPD and opportunities for methodological research, this post
is offered on a full time basis (although part time would be considered),
and is available immediately for three years.

Medical Statistician/Epidemiologist

DEPARTMENT OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE, Oxford Centre for Monitoring and
Diagnosis in Primary Care

Grade 7: Salary 28,839 - 35,469 p.a.

The Department of Primary Health Care at the University of Oxford is
seeking to appoint a Medical Statistician/Epidemiologist to work with the
Oxford Centre for Monitoring and Diagnosis (MaDOx).

The Oxford Centre for Monitoring and Diagnosis in Primary Care is a
research programme funded by the National Institute for Health Research.
It has attracted over 3.5m in funding which is being used to study the
monitoring of chronic diseases in primary care, including the monitoring
of patients on anticoagulation therapy and conditions such as
hypertension, heart failure, diabetes and asthma. With increasing numbers
of patients with chronic diseases, more research is needed into how to
monitor these to ensure that patients are receiving the optimal treatment.
The centre is also funded to increase diagnostic accuracy and efficiency
aiming to identify important problems in the way diagnoses are made in
primary care, improve the use of existing techniques, and develop new
technologies. The centre also works alongside the Cochrane Tobacco
Addiction review group, and so this position would be ideal for a
statistician or statistical epidemiologist with interest and expertise in
any or all of the following areas:

    * Multivariate modelling
    * Longitudinal modelling with fixed and random effects
    * Meta-analysis

The post will be funded for three years in the first instance. The
postholder will work under the supervision of the University Research
Lecturer in Medical Statistics, Dr Richard Stevens. We intend to make an
appointment at Grade 7 but if no suitably qualified candidates are found,
an appointment at Grade 6 (25,623 - 30,594 p.a.) may be made, with an
appropriate change in the duties.

The postholder will be expected to provide statistical leadership and
support to a multidisciplinary team of researchers within the centre.
Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent experience e.g. a publications
record) in a related subject with experience in medical statistics and/or
epidemiology. The successful applicant will possess the ability to manage
and organise research programmes, working both independently and as part
of a growing team. Excellent interpersonal and highly developed IT skills
are also important for this position.

For further written information, which contains details of the application
procedure, please see: http://www.dphpc.ox.ac.uk/jobs, or email:
personnel@.... Please quote reference number BY09024.

The closing date for applications is 5 pm on Friday 20 November 2009 and
it is anticipated that interviews will be held in the week beginning 7
December 2009.
