JOB REMINDER: Medical Statisticians, Centre for Statistics in Medicine, OxfordMedical Statisticians for Support Teams (2 Posts) Reference No: HD/09/031
and HD/09/032Salary - £25,623 to £30,594 http://www.csm-oxford.org.uk/ Applications are invited for two posts of medical statisticians to join the CR-UK and NHS Support Teams of the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (Director: Professor Doug Altman) in Oxford. The support teams provide expert statistical input into collaborative health research. Projects include phase II-III national and international randomised controlled trials and observational studies. The statistician typically collaborates directly with the lead researcher, taking responsibility for the design, analysis and clear interpretation in public dissemination whilst working to agreed deadlines. For both teams, some projects are in collaboration with a UKCRN Registered Clinical Trials Unit. The support teams also carry out methodological research, offer statistical advice to researchers and run statistical courses. The major difference between the two teams is due to the differing sources of funding. The CR-UK support team is mainly funded by Cancer Research UK and funding committees linked to cancer leading mainly to cancer related work. The NHS support team is mainly funded by the NHS and funding committees covering all health leading to a greater variety of diseases within their projects. The support teams include 10 statisticians in total and form part of the Centre for Statistics in Medicine which employs a further 6 statisticians. The Centre carries out collaborative medical research projects, a methodological research programme and teaching. Members of the Centre have a particular interest in randomised controlled trials, diagnostic accuracy studies and prognostic studies. The centre is part of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Oxford and is located in an attractive site at Wolfson College in North Oxford. You would be expected to work with other statisticians in the support team on several concurrent collaborative projects. The successful applicant is likely to have a postgraduate qualification in applied or medical statistics. Located in a stimulating statistical environment with career enhancement encouraged by CPD and opportunities for methodological research, these posts are offered on a full time basis (although part time would be considered) and are available immediately for three years.
