JPA function extensibility

Does JPA have any mechanisms to define custom functions that can be
called from an EJBQL query?
What I am looking for is an SPI to extend the pre-defined functions with
new domain or deployment-specific
functions. Is there any such ability today? If not, is this something
that seems useful for future versions of the spec?
