Java 1.6.0_16 disables Lasso 8.5.6

This was completely scary and took a while to troubleshoot and resolve. We
discovered that a recent installation of Java 1.6.0_16 completely disabled
access to Lasso Server 8.5.6.  Received Lasso Error --"Lasso Connector
could not communicate with Lasso Service. Failed to open connection." To
be clear this is not a page error.  Nothing, including Lasso
Administration etc. was available.  Normal pages continue to be served
through IIs.  When we backed down to 1.6.0_15 everything functions as
normal.   I have heard of other application problem when there is a
mismatch on server/client version but it is not clear to me how that would
affect Lasso.   Most of our clients are using J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
which installs 1.5.0.    My questions is what if anything does Lasso use
in Java space that effects communication with the Lasso Connection for IIs
and how do we fix?  Documentation says Java 1.4. Java 2 required on the
server.  Are we to the point where 1.6.0_16 breaks some compatibility with
1.4. and Lasso stops functioning?   Security folks here want to make sure
we have the latest version of Java installed.  Need to come up with a
solution quickly. Next patch will stop it again.   Don't have whole lot of
control over the client version but can't see how that would affect
anything in lasso web services.

Windows 2003 Server - Service Pack 2
Lasso 8.5.6
IIS 6.0
Java 1.6.0_15 (current functioning)

Thanks,

Dave Fleenor

For no particular reason, I wonder if you were to log errors with an
define_atbegin routine, if the problem would go away, or at least
ameliorate.
