SPSS is currently seeking a User Interface Designer in our Chicago headquarters. The User Interface
Designer will be responsible for all aspects of the user interface design
process while working on various SPSS products. This individual will work
closely with all others involved in the software development process to
ensure delivery of high quality, usable software. The individual will also
work with other UI designers corporate-wide to help determine and deliver
best UI design practices.
Responsibilities include:
· Works collaboratively with software engineering
and product management teams to provide the best design solution for the end
user
· Gathers and analyzes customer requirements and
usability data as needed for project assignment
· Develops and maintains design mockups, user
flows, prototypes, specifications, and other design documentation
· Designs and develops creative user interface
solutions of a moderately complex nature given platform limitations,
architectures, and development schedules
· Performs accessibility assessments of desktop and
web-based products and proposes solutions for identified issues
· Participates in requirements engagements and
design review meetings
· Conducts usability testing during various phases
of product development and applies results to the user interface
· Acts as a consultant on user-experience and user
interface issues
· Educates others outside the UI group on UI design
methodologies and the benefits of good UI design
· Does appropriate education planning and
follow-through to stay technically current
Education
and Work Experience:
· BS/BA or MS degree in Human Factors, Cognitive
Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphics Design, or equivalent work
experience
· 2 – 5 years user interface design
experience, preferable with analytic and/or data mining software
· Art and/or visual design training / skills extremely
desirable
Specialized Knowledge and Shills:
· Proven ability to work with the software
development process and project management
· Proven experience designing both computer desktop
and web-based products
· Proven excellent analytical and design skills
including task analysis and use-case creation
· Proven ability with application and web-based
prototyping/design tools
· Proven ability designing for desktop environments
with C++ and Java
· Knowledge of web technologies and tools such as
application and web servers, HTML, XML, JavaScript, JSP, and Flash
· Knowledge of accessibility guidelines and
assistive technologies
· Proven outstanding verbal and written
communication skills
· Proven ability to work in a dynamic
multidisciplinary team environment
· Proven team player with the ability to learn
complex technical material
