thinking that the JP6 is simply a six-voice version of the JP8 with the addition of rudimentary MIDI? And how do the Jupiters compare to the Prophet 5? I have a P5 (rev.3) and love it although it's a temperamental little monkey and I suspect, rather more limited in scope than the Jupiters. Lastly, what price would one expect to pay for these at the moment (I'm in the UK) - the JP8 seems to be very expensive on the rare occasions that they're available (& looks gigantic), but I'm assuming the JP6 & P5 are of comparable value. Thanks, MattF |

Have you tried searching the archives? This has been discussed a time or two (or ten, or a hundred). Short answer is No, the JP6 is not remotely a six-voice JP8. There are many differences. searchable archives are here: http://www.retrosynth.com/ah/ In my opinion, a JP6 with the Europa upgrade (http://www.synthcom.com) is one of the finest analog poly's to be had anywhere. But it's still not a six-voice JP8. Perhaps someone else on the list can help you with the current-pricing question... From the archive I found the following link explaining the differences between the Jupiters. http://machines.hyperreal.org/manufacturers/Roland/Jupiter/info/roland.JP6.JP8.MKS80.txt In future I'll be more thorough in looking at the archives before posting.
