Could be handy for people who want to e-book with switch/alternative access. E.g. running on a netbook would make a pretty accesssible/good battery life reader, at 1/10 of the cost of a page turner (anyone provide these anymore?!)...

Good find Simon

Lots of free content at Project Gutenburg  and also http://www.freekindlebooks.org

I downloaded ‘A Christmas Carol” – works very well.  If only we had TTS as well.

Excellent keyboard control as well.  Must make a SAW selection set for it and Grid for The Grid!

Many thanks to Simon for finding and publicising this.  I've installed it on both a laptop and a Netbook and it's extremely easy to use with Dragon.  Once a book is open you don't really need anything other than the 'Page down' command.  It really does seem to be a fairly complete solution for anyone unable to use the standard Kindle.

There is a wide choice of text size and, when you finish reading and close the application, it reopens by default at the point where you left it.  It really is a pretty ideal solution for disabled people who are unable to use their hands.  And voice will not be the only option for operating the 'Page down' key.  Scrolling is also an option, as is using the on-screen movement arrows included in the software.

David Colven has already mentioned the huge library of free Kindle compatible books available from Project Gutenberg at http://www.freekindlebooks.org

But be very cautious about downloading the supposedly 'free' Kindle books from the list on the Amazon website.  I downloaded one to try and, although the book was shown on the website at $0.00 I still got an e-mail thanking me for my custom and telling me that $2.38 had been taken from my credit card!  So be warned!

PS If you are considering shopping at Amazon this Christmas, do please consider starting via the link on the Accessible Property Register website at www.accessible-property.org.uk.  It doesn't cost you any extra, but commission generated is used to support our free services for older and disabled people.

Tried it too and seems to work very well! Keyboard shortcuts for everything. They are asking for feedback so it might be worth mentioning the TTS: write to: kindleforpc-feedback@...
